Day 2
Today we attended two church services, and it was an amazing and a tough experience all packed into one!
It was tough because we were sitting outside in the heat listening to a 2 hour sermon in a language we didn't understand, but it was most exuberating to experience worship in a different way and to see the Christian Haitians' passion and fire for God.
Later today we went into the city to a restaurant where we ate pizza and ice cream. Yes, you read that right. Pizza and ice cream! It was actually really good. It was interesting to see that most of the patrons in the restaurant were watching the Greece vs. Costa Rica soccer game. Evidently we're not the only ones interested and caught up in the FIFA World Cup craze.
Tomorrow we will be heading to some villages where we will do a VBS service for the kids. Keep us in your prayers! Pray for safe travels and for open hearts!
Thoughts from Erin ~ "The first two days here have been AMAZING. It's totally different than I expected. The children and everyone else are so joyful and happy. I came here hoping to give to them the love for Jesus I have in my heart, but I have received so much love from them already in less than 48hrs. I love seeing their faces light up when they see a picture of themselves.. Seeing ourselves is something we all take for granted everyday. I've realized that I thought that they have less than us, but it's really just material things. The love they have for each other and Jesus is just breathtaking, and they show it 24\7. I will never be able to explain how my heart feels when the children come up and hug my legs and kiss my cheek, and the way they hang on and don't let go is just so sweet."

And here we go . . .
Departure from RDU went rather smoothly, and we arrived safely in Haiti.
Upon arrival to the compound where we are staying in Haiti, we took a tour of the area where at one time as many as 35,000 Haitians resided in tarp tents. Today, there are no more than 10 tents left, so Haiti is slowly but surely recovering from the devastation of the earthquake.
A team from Michigan has been teaching the boys in the boys' home a song with bells which they will perform in church tomorrow, and we are excited to attend and worship with them.
We know this week will be a blessing and are looking forward to some life changing experiences. Continue to keep our team in your prayers and thank you for your support.
